Does GTA 6 Have Microtransactions?
The short answer
No, not in the single-player game at launch, according to Rockstar. You pay for the game once and it does not ask for more real money inside the story mode.
Who said it
Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson answered the question during a press visit to the studio in Edinburgh. The hosts of the Kinda Funny Gamecast reported his answer as “no monetization” when they asked about spending real money in the game. GameSpot reported it on August 27, 2026. Note that this is a verbal answer relayed by the press, not a written policy from Rockstar.
The $20 you might still spend
No microtransactions does not mean everything is in the base game. Some single-player content is exclusive to the Ultimate Edition, including several in-game shops and side missions, as GamesRadar+ reported. You can move from Standard to Ultimate by paying the $20 difference. Our editions page has the prices.
What the answer does not cover
It covers the single-player game at launch. It says nothing about a future online mode, which Rockstar has not announced (see online multiplayer), or about paid expansions later. GTA Online for GTA V, which does sell in-game currency, keeps running. If Rockstar announces an online mode for GTA 6, its monetization is a separate question that is still unanswered.
